Horst Görtz Institute for IT Security
The Horst Görtz Institute (HGI) is one of Europe's largest university-based institution for interdisciplinary research in the field of IT security. The HGI consists of renowned research groups from the Departments of Electrical Engineering & Information Sciences, Mathematics, Economics and Law.

ECRYPT, the European Network of Excellence (NoE) in Cryptologgy) was
launched in cooperation with the HGI. Furthermore, numerous leading conferences reflect the international acceptance the HGI has been enjoying ever since its foundation, such as AES 4 (Advanced Encryption Standard), CHES 2003 (Cryptographic Hardware and Embedded Systems), ECC 2004 (Elliptic Curve Cryptography) and Trusted Computing Conference 2006, as well as EUROCRYPT 2009, the worldwide largest conference in the field of cryptology. The HGI is internationally well-connected with renowned research institutes and other universities. Its public private partnership eurobits and its board of directors with leading figures from science, industry and politics assures its practical approach.
The broad expertise of the HGI groups provides a unique environment for interdisciplinary research in most areas of modern IT security. The HGI actively participates in international research in theoretical and applied cryptography, embedded security, mobile and fixed network security, trusted computing, secure operating systems and platforms, as well as, legal and economic aspects of security. HGI researchers are at the international forefront of many developments in information security research with strong impact on practice.
